GEN-UI

Generative AI tools, such as chatbots and data analytics tools, have the power to improve business processes and transform customer interactions. But many organizations get stuck in effectively deploying these technologies. The reason? Complex interfaces and lack of transparency make it difficult for users to truly understand and trust AI. This leads to frustration and underutilized potential.

With the GEN-UI project, we are addressing this challenge. In our UX lab, we develop and test smart design choices to make AI solutions more accessible, efficient and valuable to both end users and developers.

Designing user-friendly AI solutions

Problem Statement

Generative AI solutions are promising, but often difficult to put into practice. Users find it difficult to understand and trust AI solutions, mainly due to the "black box" nature of AI and the complexity of many interfaces. Developers, in turn, need more accessible tools and clear interfaces to reliably test and put AI solutions into production. Flemish startups and companies often lack sufficient resources to quickly develop user-friendly AI prototypes and are also under pressure from international competition.

Target

GEN-UI 's goal is to support companies in developing AI solutions that are both accessible and user-friendly. By developing reusable design patterns, we create intuitive interfaces that are not only easy for end users to use, but also help developers bring AI tools into production faster and more reliably. Thus, we ensure higher adoption, better productivity, customer satisfaction and a noticeable impact on business results.

Method

In Odisee's UX Lab, we conduct extensive user testing and usability experiments to measure how design choices affect the acceptance of AI solutions. Using the Design Thinking methodology, we work iteratively to develop and test solutions that seamlessly meet the needs of end users and developers. Our approach consists of:

  • Creating design patterns that address complex navigation and lack of transparency and provide reusable solutions for user-friendly AI interfaces.
  • Establishing living labs where participating companies can test and validate their prototypes, enabling them to develop and optimize AI solutions more quickly and cost-effectively.

Expected output

At the end of the GEN-UI project, we anticipate the following results:

  • Validated design patterns immediately deployable for simpler and more intuitive AI interfaces.
  • Improved accessibility and higher acceptance of AI tools, leading to greater efficiency and cost savings.
  • Guidelines and insights for developing intuitive interfaces that help developers bring AI solutions into production more reliably.
  • Dissemination of knowledge on optimizing AI interfaces through workshops and publications, with a positive social impact through more inclusive AI solutions
